Monfeusco

Montefusco is a picturesque historical mountain village in the province of Avellino with about 1,400 inhabitants. From the top of the mount, it overlooks the surrounding valleys of the rivers Calore and Sabato, at 707m above sea level. If you approach it in the winter dawns, it first appears as a vessel wrapped in a light mist. This is why it was named in Latin "Mons Fuscus" (foggy mountain). Additional studies derive its etymology from Fulsulae, an ancient Samnite town. It is a village that enchants you with its narrow streets and aristocratic houses. A major tourist destination, among other things, for the famous Bourbon prison now converted into a museum, Montefusco, thanks to the environmental conditions, the volcanic soil rich in minerals and the optimal sun exposure is one of the eight selected areas for the production of Greco di Tufo DOCG.
